Technology – Diagnostic

Enhancing Efficacy and Safety by Guiding Therapies.

Eutropics “companion diagnostic” assay is based on our proprietary BH3 profiling technology, invented by a founding member of Eutropics, and exclusively licensed from the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. This technology identifies the alterations of the apoptosis signaling machinery in the cancer cell, elucidating the specific pro-survival dependencies. Visualization of the particular dependency of a cancer cell reveals the unique sensitivity of that cell as well, and informs the treatment options. Ultimately the companion diagnostic assay will guide the use of our novel therapeutic for treating the appropriate patients with multiple myeloma or other blood cancers.

This technology identifies alterations in Apoptosis Signaling pathways in cancer cells  from patients with multiple myeloma, other blood cancers, and sold tumor cancers.

The key decision for a cancer cell to undergo apoptosis is made at the cell structure called the mitochondrion. BH3 profiling interrogates the mitochondria of cancer cells to determine how they are avoiding cell death. A variety of measured death signals are applied to cancer cell mitochondria, and the response measured.  BH3 profiling does not measure the amounts of the many proteins that control apoptosis, but rather measures their ultimate function. Since the assay will be performed to guide individual therapy, it is a key to introducing truly personalized therapy to cancer patients.
